LMS Takes New York With Galconomist

LMS Takes New York With Galconomist

LMS takes New York with Galconomist for Issue 004: The Play Issue.

Somewhere between getting dressed, getting it wrong and changing your shoes for the third time, we started to wonder: when did fashion become so serious.

In a city where personal style lives on every corner, LMS took to the streets of New York with Galconomist to celebrate getting dressed for exactly what it should be ... fun. The best outfits aren’t always the ones that follow the rules. They’re the ones that make you feel like you. The unexpected colours, the statement shoe, stepping out the door and seeing where the night takes you.

We’re so excited to finally share our collaboration photo shoot with Galconomist, shot on the streets of Soho and the Lower East side for Issue 004: The Play Issue.

While our Founder and Director, Lisa was in New York, she joined forces with the Galconomist team to bring a little LMS energy to the Big Apple. Together, the teams worked across everything from the creative direction to styling with every look finished, naturally, with a pair of LMS.

This photo shoot is a love letter to dressing for yourself, experimenting with style and never taking life and yourself too seriously.

And just like any good New York story, there’s a cover moment. Spot LMS icons, alongside a few new favourites, on the cover of Galconomist and throughout their September issue.

Here's The Scoop: Meet Galconomist

If Galconomist isn’t already on your radar, allow us to introduce you.

Galconomist is a quarterly print and digital magazine exploring the real, unfiltered economics of being a girl, from love and relationships to careers, money, beauty and identity.

There’s a reason this collaboration felt so natural. Galconomist celebrates real, unfiltered stories about being a girl, while LMS has always celebrated the fun, confidence and individuality that comes from dressing like yourself. Different worlds but the same idea: be bold, do you and be playful.

When we heard Issue 004 was all about Play, we knew this was a match made in heaven.

Behind The Shoot

Making the trip even more special, our Founder and Director, Lisa, was on the ground in New York for the photo shoot.

From sourcing vintage pieces for styling from The NY Archive, working alongside the Galconomist team on creative direction, featuring her bestie, Mimi in the shoot to capturing all of the BTS moments along the way, Lisa was there to see LMS come to life in a completely new environment.

There’s something surreal about designing a shoe back in Sydney and then, months later, watching it walk down Mercer Street in SoHo.

LMS In The City

Of course, we couldn’t take on New York without bringing a few of our Icons along for the ride.

Spotted throughout the editorial issue are some familiar LMS icons, including The Twiggy, The Lily, The Betty and The Claudia, each bringing a little something different to the streets of NYC.

But there’s also a new girl in town…

Meet The Paloma.

Making her editorial debut on the streets of New York, meet the newest girl in the LMS universe: Paloma. Serving vintage glamour with an LMS twist, she arrives in three rich colourways with a sky-high wooden platform and open-toe silhouette made to turn heads. Consider this your first sneak peek ... she’s launching very, very soon.

Be Bold. We Dare You

At the heart of The Play Issue is a question we love: in a world built around optimising everything, when did getting dressed become something we had to get right?

With trends, algorithms and an endless stream of advice telling us what’s in, what’s out and what we should be wearing, it’s easy to forget the best part of fashion: playing with it.

Wear the unexpected shoe. Mix the colours that supposedly don’t go together. Get overdressed for dinner. Put on the platforms at 10am. Wear the “special occasion” shoes just because it’s Tuesday.

If anyone knows a thing or two about dressing up and going out, it is the special guest of the issue, Ellie Williams of @ellie.forthegirls and she has all of the tips for the perfect night out in NYC. You can find her recommendations for the perfect girls night, her favourite bars & where to go late night in this issue of the Galconomist.

The best outfits aren’t always the ones that make the most sense. They’re the ones that make you feel something and where better to put that philosophy into practice than New York?

It’s a city where the streets are the runway and personal style is part of the scenery. Heels with denim at breakfast? Absolutely. Colour and texture clashing, even better. Something completely over the top just because you felt like it? YES. There’s no single way to dress for New York and there’s no single way to be an LMS girl either.

Made to Play

Playfulness and self-expression have always been at the heart of LMS.

We’ve never believed shoes should quietly finish an outfit. They should be the star of the show.

It’s why we love colour. It’s why we love a platform. It’s why we’ll never say no to an unexpected materials.  It’s exactly why being part of The Play Issue feels so perfectly LMS.

From Sydney to the streets of New York, our philosophy remains the same: wear the shoes, have fun with your wardrobe and never take getting dressed too seriously.

And Just Like That ... Fashion Is Fun Again

More than showcasing our pieces in print, these images capture something that has been part of LMS from day one: fashion should be fun.

Your outfit doesn’t have to be perfectly coordinated. It doesn’t need the approval of an algorithm and it definitely doesn’t have to look like everyone else.

Sometimes the best outfit is simply the one you put on because you love it.

From Sydney to New York, we will keep making shoes designed to turn heads, start conversations and hopefully make getting dressed a whole lot more fun.

In True New York city style, we might as well finish off this blog post in true Carrie Bradshaw fashion, the queen of playful dressing:

Maybe the perfect outfit isn’t something you find. Maybe it’s something you have a little fun creating and maybe it's a little LMS.

Be bold. We dare you.
